Frequency Distribution of Bullish & Bearish Fast Stochastic Oscillator signals for S&P 500 constituents updated up to May-16 (Thursday). Use blue widget below to further filter by Sector
Sector:
Use widget to select sector

Calculation Methodology: Bullish signal when Fast Stochastic Oscillator < 20; Bearish signal when Fast Stochastic Oscillator > 80
Only Current S&P500 constituents are considered (even for historical dates)

How to use this:
  • Elevated numbers of stocks hitting bullish signals may signal nearing short/medium-term bottoms for the broader market or a particular sector
  • Similarly, elevated numbers of bearish signals may signal nearing short/medium-term tops
  • Note that these peaks can be spiky and less reliable for finding tops/bottoms as technical indicators are short-term oriented
  • Note the difference between Signals and Trends for various technical indicators. See Guide for further details

  • Interpretation above is not comprehensive but rather just a starting point of understanding. Experienced market professionals typically use a combination of different datapoints to drive decisions
