Frequency Distribution of S&P 500 constituents below various daily Simple Moving Averages updated up to Jun-13 (Thursday). Use blue widget below to further filter by Sector
Use widget to select sector

Calculation Methodology: Simple Moving Averages of Close prices are used for calculation
Only Current S&P500 constituents are considered (even for historical dates)

How to use this:
  • Bunching together of multiple lines (i.e. many stocks above/below Moving Averages) may signal overbought/oversold conditions in the short term for the broader market or a particular sector
  • Crossovers of moving average frequencies are also often used similar to Death/Golden Crosses of the moving averages themselves

  • Interpretation above is not comprehensive but rather just a starting point of understanding. Experienced market professionals typically use a combination of different datapoints to drive decisions
